How do I connect my new speakers to my computer?
I have bought some new studio monitor speakers, (Alesis M1 Active Mk2). They have only 1/4" jack and XLR inputs for each speaker, and I was wondering what would be the best way to hook this up to my computer. Do I need an external soundcard or an audio interface, or would a 1/4" jack splitter to small jack work?
Sorry but you can't just use a 1/4" to 3.5mm jack adapter to plug these into your PC. PC analog outputs put out audio in 2 channels (ex. front left and right, rear left and right, etc...) but they don't have separate left output and right output ports. As far as I know the only thing you can do is buy a compatible receiver. The PC will connect to the receiver input and the speakers will connect to the receiver outputs. There may be other options out there but that's all I can think of. Speakers like that just aren't meant to be PC speakers...
