Music computer recording question?
I want to record my drums. I have 7 mics that i use and i was wondering if doing it this way would work and save me money. I want to beable to record each mic on its own track, like an audio interface would do onto a program like mixcraft 5. I was wondering if i got this Hosa DTF-803 25-Pin to Female XLR Cable
http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Hosa-DTF803-25Pin-to-Female-XLR-Cable?sku=333023
and then i got this 25 pin serial port to usb
http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-media/product-gallery/B000067RWK/ref=cm_ciu_pdp_images_0?ie=UTF8&index=0
and hooked all my drum mics to the xlrs and the to serial ports together and the usb into my computer, would this work? would i beable to individualy record each mic to its own channel so i would be able to get a better mix from my drums??
I don't think that would work. The only thing I know of that will record 7 separate tracks simultaneously into seven separate tracks on a DAW (digital audio workstation) recording software, is the new Pro Tools Mbox Pro (3rd gen) - http://www.guitarcenter.com/Avid-Pro-Tools-Mbox-Pro--3rd-gen--H14109-i1552699.gc - M-audio my also have an 8-track recorder but, make sure whatever you get specifies that it will record up to 8-tracks simultaneously. There are 8-track recorders that only record 3 or 4 tracks at a time.
