What category would you put these artists and groups into ?
They have various categories in music YA ,but the artists I like just don't fit into any of them.
So where do you think Moody Blues,Pink Floyd,Deep Purple Cream,Uriah Heep,Barclay James Harvest,Alan Parsons Project, Love, Neil Young,and Al Stewart belong?
I do not think they belong in rock and pop as this seems to be taken up with all the latest groups.
Perhaps we should have a new category 70's rock?

Most of the bands listed fall into the sub genre of progressive rock (prog rock) which would be characterised by things like it's orchestration, scale forms used, time changes, concept work etc. The do belong in rock but some of the bands may say this devalues work they did. Also a category of 70s rock would preclude the chronological extremes of some bands as they were recording prior to and post the 70s.
