A question about Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique?
In Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique, in the 4th movement (Marche au Supplice) there are repeat dots at bar 77. But is it ever repeated? No recording i have heard repeats. and if so, where does the repeat begin? Could it be a mis-print in my edition? (I have the Eulenburg copy).
No, it's absolutely supposed to be there. I have a recording on this computer with the repeat, and last time i played it, we repeated it as well.
March to the Scaffold conforms to basic sonata form, with an Exposition consisting of two subjects followed by the development of these subjects. The piece then recalls the original themes in it's Recapitulation and finishes with a Coda. These are easily located in this piece.
The repeat takes you right back to the start of the piece. Honestly.
