Professional Advice on moving for Creative Jobs/Opportunities?
Hello. I am looking for some advice on possibly moving to Southern California or New York for entertainment jobs.
I have come to realize that if you want to work in the creative arts you have to move to a larger market(probably LA or San Fran or NYC.
Looking for work opportunities
in media arts/animation, web/new media/scripting/
audio/video production/gaming
entertainment jobs ,etc..
I have been in Florida my whole life and am over it, California & NYC has everything when it comes to new media/arts. and entertainment fields, but I also know everyone and their mother are there so competition is intense, but Id rather be a small fish in a big pond, than a small fish in no pond.
I also realize the cost of living is ridicilous but the salaries are higher so it should even each other out.(Although I really have no idea)
Any advice on this by creative professionals, the culture(work/live, pay, long term benefits,
Any thing would helpful
Thanks
Southern California is where it's at, IMO. Cost of living is higher and housing is smaller, but there's no other place like it. I answer a lot of questions on here from students who want to get into game development, and I tell them that they should go to school near a "hub" like LA, San Fran, NYC, etc, because it's so much easier to get hired when you already live in the area. And So Cal would be less of a culture shock for you than NYC would be, I think.
OTOH, if you're interested in game development specifically, you might want to look into Austin and Seattle as well. Nothing compares to LA, but Austin is the 3rd largest game development city in the US, has low cost of living, and a nice small town feel.
