I have a compaq persario f500 laptop and it's only got 80gigs. Is this external hard drive ok for it?
is brandnew, 1 year RTB warranty!
500GB external USB2.0 highspeed (SATA)Hard drive!
WD/Samsung 500GB 7200 rpm high speed SATA harddrive inside.
This is new model to replace the old model. most of old model use low speed IDE harddrive, and this new model use high speed SATA II harddrive. USB connection make sure it works with all the computer with windows or mac.
Complete Ready to go, come with all cables, Power supply
it is 3.5" external harddrive.(need main power to run)
- Hi-Speed USB 2.0 compliant and USB 1.1
backwards compatible
-Easy Plug and Play installation
-Hi-Speed data transfer rates up to 480Mbits (60MB) per second
-LED indicates Power ON and data transfer activity
-Fully compatible with Hi-Speed USB 2.0
Sounds fine.
Whether the drive is the older 1.5 Gb/s SATA or the newer 3 Gb/s SATA doesn't matter because you're only going to access it at 480 Mbps.
Now, if your laptop has an "eSATA" (external SATA) connector, that's MUCH better than USB and will free up your ports. If you do, get an external drive with an eSATA connector, preferably 3 Gb/s SATA. Before you leave the store, open the box and make sure it has all the cables you need. Make sure it also has USB just in case you need to plug it into another computer.
("SATA II" is a fake BS marketing term and does NOT legally mean 3 Gigabit per second transfer rate or anything else, and is not recognized by the Serial ATA Working Group http://www.serialata.org/namingguidelines.asp . Don't expect the salesperson to understand that. Always look for either "1.5 Gb/s" or "3 Gb/s" to be sure you're getting what you want).
