mic a drum kit and it's mixer?
I'm trying to do a little "at home" recording with a program on my computer. I am a guitarist and know very little about the recording set up. I know I need a few mics, a mixer, and a pc program to start off. Now I have a 10 channel powered mixer with multi fx processor. I think it's a PA mixer, but not really sure of the difference in pre amp mixer, powered mixer, ect... I'd like to record the drums in multiple tracks to better find tune, if thats even possible. So I sit here lost and confused, if anyone could help I would much appreciate it
to mic a drum kit you need a mic on the kick drum, a mic near the cymbals and a mic just near the kit. I play drums, and when I recorded with my band, I had like 5 mics on me. the guy that recorded us was able to turn up or down each mic individually and get the best balance. I guess you should just experiment and figure out what sounds best for the sound you are trying to achieve.
