Which one of these mixers would be best if I want to record my own music?
These are the two choices:

Behringer 502 Xenyx 502 5 Channel mixer
Behringer 802 Xynyx 8 Channel mixer

I don't really know anything about mixers at all so I'll need a little help here. I'm hoping to completely bipass the guitar amp all together and record directly into the mixer. I'm not sure exactly what a "preamp" is, but it sounds like it could be useful. Which one of these would work best for me in my situation? Thanks for the help!
Well, you can never have enough channels so, go for the 8-channel just for that reason. However, before you settle on a Behringer mixer, you should really go and compare those Behringer mixers side by side with an Alesis Multimix 8-channel mixer. It's like night and day as far as sound quality, workmanship, hardware quality, you name it. Once I did that, you could not sell me any of the Behringer's. Alesis makes a much higher quality mixer for only a little more.
