Can Phantom Power on a mixer damage mics that don't need it?
we have a 10 channel Peavey XR 8600 mixer that has phantom power, and we only need it for 2 condenser mics. If we have the two mics plugged up and using the phantom power, but we have other regular mics that don't need phantom power plugged up, will the phantom power damage the regular mics? thanks.
No. Phantom power wont damage any mics that dont require it. If you have two condenser mics and two dynamic mics plug into the mixer and your phantom power is on for the whole board, it wont cause any problems. I am not familiar with your particular mixer, but check to see if the phantom power switch is global or is able to be selected by individual channels. Also, it may only have phantom on a few of the channels, like 1-4 and not the rest, but regardless, phantom power will not hurt a dynamic mic. You can get a second opinion by reading the link below.
