What is the difference between condenser/dynamic mic and which instruments require what to record?
What is the purpose of a condenser microphones, a dynamic microphone, and a percussion microphone? What microphone would I need for a guitar, bass, drums, vocals, and keys ( What microphone for each individual instrument ) for recording?
A condenser microphone requires DC voltage to operate. Some of them have batteries, others get their power from the instrument they are plugged into. If you want to use a condenser microphone you need to use a pre amp, mixer, or amplifier which has what is called phantom power on the microphone jack.
Dynamic microphones require no DC voltage to operate, so they will work on any amplifier. I would use dynamic microphones for all the uses you mentioned. I would want a condenser microphone if I was going to make a professional recording.
Some people like condenser microphones in a band, and they are okay, it's just a matter of personal preference.
