Is it worth buying the extended warranty on a used car?
I am getting ready to purchase a 2006 Audi A4 with about 45,000 miles on it. The car is in super great condition. They are offering me an extended, aftermarket warranty that covers any problems with the car for the next three years for only 1750 extra. Its just a little over 500 a year for full coverage for the next three years. Is this worth it or should I just deal with problems on an as needed basis?
By the way, the car is from a reputable dealer so I am not worried about it being a complete dud, but you cant ever foresee all problems of course.
When I was in F&I for Lexus/Toyota, I used to tell folks up front, "I will not sell you an extended warranty unless it's directly from Toyota. Any third party warranty is usually not worth the paper it's printed on."
The car being from a reputable dealer means squat. See if they can give you a quote from Audi/VW's warranty arm.
