Tips on how to sing into a microphone?
My friends and I have started a band and I'm playing the bass guitar as well as vocals. I just got a microphone and a stand, and I find that it's a bit hard to breathe when trying to focus on playing my instrument and singing into the microphone properly.
Does anyone have any tips that I could use when singing into the mic?
P.S. - The mic I use is a Moving-Coil Dynamic mic. I think that may be of importance to know.
Thanks in advance!

Tim's got a lot of good ideas, there.
Anytime you're singing AND playing an instrument, the people are really
going to concentrate first on the SINGING... Yes, they'll listen to your
bass playing, too, but the message is in the words and the song.
So, your BASS PLAYING has to be good enough for you to do it on
"Auto-Pilot," so you can really concentrate on the singing, pitch,
the words, inflection, and yes that BREATHING THING! It's tough to
do it together, but practice makes perfect, and you can do it.
Simplify, if possible, some of the bass things you're doing while you sing.
Stand up straight and let your body B-R-E-A-T-H-E... Without AIR, nothing's
coming out... Keep the mic "close," sing right into it easily without
over-driving it, listen-listen-listen, be sure your monitors are where
YOU CAN HEAR YOUR VOICE,
and go for it. remember KISS.. keep-it-simple-silly... Good Luck!
