Preservation hall jazz band recommended sonds?
hi, preservation hall is coming down to my country and will be performing this sunday.
i got tickets, but not familiar with this band. i know this band is very famous.
can somebody please recommend their top songs, so i can download it from the website and listen to it, at least i won't be so stupid during the performance.
The Preservation Hall Jazz Band you'll hear will be one of several touring bands under this name. They're all related, in that the owner of Preservation Hall in New Orleans hires enough experienced local traditional jazz players to have several bands touring at one time.
As with many traditional jazz bands, the personnel will change from one performance to another. A given band may have different players at different times.
In addition, the essence of traditional jazz is improvisation around a melody and the "changes" (i.e., the specific chord progressions) that go with that melody. Even if you download a song by this band, and even if the same players who are on the recording happen to be playing when you hear them, the song won't sound the same, because everybody is improvising (making it up as they play) based on the song they've chosen.
Traditional jazz bands generally play songs from the same repertoire -- an extremely large range of songs written, for the most part written between 1910 and 1935. There are no individual titles that are specifically linked with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. The best recommendation I can give is to download songs recorded by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and listen to them, simply to become familiar with the New Orleans Traditional Jazz style.
