How to get loud sound on a small PA System? How can I make it louder?
I am using Behringer SL2442FX Mixer and a Power Amplifier rated 200 + 200 into 8ohms imp and two cabinets which's got 2x12" speakers and a HF horn in each cabinet. My question is how can i make it sound louder? When I increase the main volume in the mixer Amp clips
so I increase the Amp gain controls in the Amplifier it clips again. So please help me how to set it up? I am able to increase up to 50% only in the Amplifier. how can I go beyond that and make it louder? Is it a Impedance mismatch between the Mixer and Amp? I am not sure! Please Help!!.
You may not be able to make your existing PA system louder no matter what you do.
The basic setup to get the most volume without distortion would be to send a signal into the mixer (maybe a cd player or ipod) and adjust the white "trim" knobs at the top of the each channel so the the input signal is just below distortion (watch the clip lights on those channels).
Bring those channel's faders up to zero and the mast output fader up to zero. The meters on the mixer should show a signal output that is near the red level which is around the maximum output for the mixer.
Turn up the attenuators on each amp channel until the amp starts to clip - that is your maximum volume level from that PA system - that's it. If that is still not loud enough, you need to get a bigger amp and maybe better speakers.
Be very careful to make sure you do not send a distorted clipped signal to your speakers - nothing destroys your speakers quicker than distortion.
