What are some of the better wireless microphones out there for Karaoke right now?
I'm trying to help my favorite bar pick out new wireless microphones for their Karaoke system, but I don't have much of a clue as to what to look for quality wise. They currently have a Pyle Pro PDWM 5000 microphone setup and it sounds absolutely awful. Does anyone have any recommendations for brands and models? What should I look for as far as specifications go to ensure that I purchase a great quality microphone system?
Thanks in advance!!
As a professional, I would rely most on a brand of wireless mic systems by HME, or HM Electronics. I've had to use those in corporate boardrooms and failure is not an option. When equipment fails, I don't get paid and I don't get called back for future jobs.
But while I depend upon the reliability of HME mics, that's not the sole factor. Good sound depends upon the entire audio system, as well as placement of the speakers for best coverage AND reproduction. For a bar with many nooks and crannies, you may also need a spectrum analyzer to determine the frequency fall-off's and a 1/3 octave equalyzer to compensate for them.
Back to mics, HME is not cheap but you tend to get what you pay for. Since it's for karaoke, specify an SM58 pickup element, rather than an SM57. SM57's are better for musical reproduction, but even singing, a voice still only covers a limited range, better suited with a voice element like the SM58.
Shure and Audio-Technica also make good mics, but for wireless technology, they're merely adequate, not especially great.
