An unknown port on my computer.?
I have an old (2001) dell dimension desktop. it works great (i somewhat upgraded it). well i never paid much attention to it, but now i noticed a few unknown and unused ports on the back of it. there's one yellow port that looks somewhat like the video (monitor) output, but it's yellow and it is longer. i think it is actually located on my sound card. there also a few other ports. you know the regular sound ports for mic and headphones? well they are just like that only different colors, blue, yellow and purple or black. i would like to know what those do. i also have to plug-ins for what i think are RJ-14 (like in the phone) plugs. Does that mean i have a build-in modem? because above those, there's also the regular RJ-45 plug from the CAT5 (Ethernet) cable. any help would be great. 10 points for the person with the most answers.
The yellow port is for midi instruments like a musical keyboard, and also doubles as a joystick connector. Modern PCs use USB joysticks, and midi instruments now attach by USB, too. The other jacks on your sound card are for things like line-in, line-out and digital out- you had a nice card, and those allow one to avoid mic gain, an internal amplifier,, .etc, .etc. Also, yes, you have a dial-up modem installed, just like pretty much any Dell of the era- the jck that looks like RJ45 but isn't is for an RJ11 phone cable.
