Plugging a XLT microphone to 1/4 into a 1/8'' mic jack, will this work?
So here is my crazy idea, but I don't know if it'll work cause I'm not an expert on cords and audio and such (so answer in simple words, haha). I have a big microphone that requires an XLT cord which isn't a problem because I have a sound mixer which I can output with a 1/4'' adapter. My camera is a Canon Vixia and has a plug-in for a 1/8'' microphone adapter. If I buy a 1/8''-1/4'' transformer (which in the description suggests its for headphone use, but doesn't say it can't be used elsewhere) the microphone work on my camera? Sound quality aside.
generally, sound mixers output at line level. you can't put line level audio into the camcorders mic input. it is possible for an audio engineer to come up with the cables and devices needed for your idea to "work" but its not something that is easily discussed on this forum which is geared to consumer needs.
