DSLR video and XLR adapter help?
I recently had an XLR to 3.5mm adapter stolen, so I ordered a new one off of B&H. I bought a Neutrik female XLR to 3.5mm adapter, and today I attached it to my camera and microphone. When I tested the audio, my Canon 60D was not recorded audio through the microphone but from its integrated mic. Did I do something wrong? Is it the wrong type of cable? It's just a normal female XLR on one end, and on the other end there is a 3.5mm with 3 black bands.
Does your mic use phantom power? Most mics cannot connect to camcorder Mic In ports as it is the wrong signal going into the camera. You may have to run the mic into a mixer that can give your microphone the phantom power it needs and then send the signal to the camcorder from the 'Phones' port on the mixer. Take your camera, cable and microphone to your local music store, the one that sells drum kits and guitars and such. They are audio experts and will will help you figure this out. Besides that, they may have a rental program, mine does. They charge me $25 CD to rent a top end wireless lavaliere microphone, taker it out Sat Am, and return it Mon Am (closed Sun)
