What's the best way to record an acoustic guitar using Audacity?
We want to record acoustic guitar music using Audacity. A dynamic microphone is working pretty well for vocals, but the guitar doesn't sound good. The only equipment we have is the microphone, mic stand, and a Dean Markley pickup. Any ideas of how to get a better sound?
If it's an acoustic guitar, place the mike about 1-2 feet from the sound hole and play normally. Watch your input level to make sure it doesn't clip (turn red).
If it's an electric guitar, place the mic about 1-4 inches away from the speaker cabinet and watch your levels.
One trick is to get your ear close to the instrument and imagine that YOU are the microphone, then place the mic wherever that sounds best.
Peace,
Andrew
