Beats made on a drum machine vs. made on a computer?
From an sp or mpc vs from fruity loops or pro tools?
Which do you prefer and why?
Ex.
9th wonder uses fruity loops
Alchemist uses pro tools
Pete Rock used an sp-1200 to make Soul Survivor and now he uses a MpC 2000xl
J-Dilla used a MPC-3000
I loved the Sp 1200 and the akai 950...so basically im a HARDWARE person...most of those ppl making computer beats...they sound so generic...not all ppl can freak the software shiiit like 9th or Alchemist...I think that hardware uses more creativity and most of all thats what I learned to use first. When I first started making beats...it was harder because u had to chop and find your own sounds plus go DIGGIN' to get the sounds... there werent that many ppl so called producing...But soon as fruity loops arrived EVERYBODY and they moms called themselves producers...Well because it was easier to just download or use the loops already set up in the program.
Software to me is fine as long as you are using YOUR sound...not whats already made in the program. A lot the stuff ive heard from novice software producers sound a like. Some can freak it some cant...But there still are some great producers that use software...I just dont recommend FL...dat all
