Is there a multi-track audio recording program that does this?
I cannot get the hardware to use protools so please dont say that. I need a good audio program to record myself. I have been using acoustica mixcraft but it doesn't quite cover everything i need. I have looked at reaper also but reaper does not let me edit bits of a track without deleting the whole thing. I like how reaper lets you zoom in incredibly far and mixcraft only goes so far. Effects are also important i dont need tons just the eq mastering and what not the basics. It is important that it can handle up to 20 tracks at the same time so multi track recording is a must. Is there any program that does all of this? Money is no object.
The multi-tracking option is not the default setting when the program is installed. To enable it:
Go to File / Preferences (Edit / Preferences in 1.3.7.beta version)
On the Audio I/O tab check "play other tracks while recording new one"
When recording that many tracks electronic or background noise can be a major factor if the recording process is not optimal.
The best way to avoid this is to record each track at the highest level possible before distortion.
The individual levels are adjusted when mixing down.
If several tracks are recorded at too low a volume and they are raised in the mix the noise is raised too leading to a lack of clarity or muddiness.
Although Audacity might not have all the bells and whistles of a commercial program you can get excellent results if you pay attention to the actual recording process.
You don't need to let the moths out of your wallet either.
