Help with my home recording studio?
I've been doing a little research into what I need to buy to get started on making my own home studio, I'm sure I've got what I need so far, but I'm unsure if there should be anything else, I planned on producing my own beats and recording Guitar Tracks
M-Audio Axiom 25 key USB MIDI controller
M-Audio Fast Track Pro Mobile USB Audio/MIDI Interface with Phantom Power
MXLV63M Condenser Studio Microphone
I know I'll eventually need Studio Monitors, but what else should I look into? Oh and also, I planned on using my old Dell Dimension 3000, If I upgraded it to better CPU/RAM, would it be decent enough to record music with? I've seen alot of people using Mac's, but I'm on a budget and getting a mac would cost more than the equipment I have picked out so far
in my opinion, mac is the way to go, but they are expensive and you don't have to have a mac to record by any means. one thing you need in your computer is a lot of processing power. i don't really know much about computers or any of that, so i don't know how you computer would be.
you have pretty much what you need to get started. investing in better gear is always a thing to look into, but you're fine for now.
if you plan on recording a lot of guitar tracks you might want to look into plug-ins for guitars for some different tones. there are programs out there that can give you the sound of vintage amps and things like that. for hardcore guitarists this may be something to look into and invest in.
if you are going to record vocals, get a pop filter for your mic. and i would invest in better mics at some point. for guitar i would go with the SM57 by Shure. it's abour $100 and has been in studios and live shows for years. a good trick is to record the output of the amp with a mic, and also take a guitar signal straight into your interface. then you can manipulate each track into one big guitar track.
