What would I have to do to become a DJ?
I am 19 years young, and in love with Doo-wops...Ive loved them my whole life. I know numerous groups and songs along with history and facts. I even know some of the rare type doo-wops that some people that lived back in that day dont even know about. I am almost certain that this is what I want to do if given the chance. This music needs to be preserved and the people who are DJ's now for oldies stations are from that time when that music was top. Whos going to preserve it lets say in 10-20 years from now. What would I have to do to become an oldies DJ, more preferably a Doo-wop DJ?
I'd suggest seeing if your local radio station has internships. Even though they don't pay well at all, internships look great on a resume and give you job experience.
Get to know your music. Educate yourself on all types of music, even if you want to focus on doo-wop. A good DJ should know about the music they play.
Consider getting a college degree in something like music, communications, or broadcasting. That gives you more job options. Some colleges even have campus radio stations that you might be able to get involved in.
Good luck!
