any lighting tips for a talent show?
our school has two upcoming talent shows and i am in charge of lighting. I do have experience in lighting, but not for such a diverse kind of show. last time i just used a few colour washes from the front and some top lighting.
our school has a somewhat basic system: +- 40 parcans, 24 available dimming channels, two dmx colour changing followspots and one manual followspot. no intelligent lighting, i'm afraid. we also usually hire a smoker.
any ideas?
FIRST... make it a condition that HE CAN'T SMOKE... tell him it's a state law or the fire marshal doesn't allow it or something he will believe.
As for how to USE what you have... there is NO WAY to tell you how to light something like what you want to do WHEN WE DONT' EVEN KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING... and that is sort of important.
About the only tip I can give you is... do your lighting during dress rehearsals AND WRITE THE SETTINGS DOWN on a SHOT SHEET.. if you at least write them down, then you can quickly set up the board during BLACK so it would be ready when you bring the lights back up.
