What if I connect the RJ-45 receptacle on the back of my computer to the same plug on a twin computer beside ?
I have 2 Medion "Life" computers side by side. Both have RJ-45 sockets on the rear panel for Ethernet connection. I have a short cable with RJ-45 connectors at each end. This red cable has the wires (color coded) opposite each other (data transfer ?) One computer is connected to the DSL Internet, the other is not.
Can I use this cable to interconnect to the other or do I need one with both connectors wired the same?
Or do I have to use a cable going from 1 modem to the other?
I can use one PC or the other thru a KVM switch I would like to be able to use information from both PC's at the same time if I could.
The cable you are talking about is called a cross-over cable and it the proper cable to connect 2 computers to each other directly.
For the computer that is connected to the DSL modem you will need to enable Internet sharing. Then the other computer will be able to also use the Internet. Of course the computer connected to the DSL will need to network cards. One for the DSL connection and one for the intra-connection.
