Is an external hard drive a good option for storing video and music?
I need more space for this stuff but my Dell only has two ATA Serial controlers, so I don't think I can connect an internal though that would be prefered. Im just unsure how the slower speed of USB 2.0 will effect me sharing files online through the external. I am also concerned about the life span of the external drive. I need opinions.
Internal hard disk is better option
Look out for external hard disk that has higher rpm as well as cache and those who has firewire connectivity.
Hope your system got enough Ram as using an external hard disk will require Ram.....
About the lifespan, its pretty much as a normal hard disk (you got 1year warranty, so why worry?)
There is also adaptor casing for internal hard disk (So if ever you wana use it as an internal hard disk, you can) on sale at most computer fairs, costs around £20-30.
