which drum rack should i buy?
i have a pdp set with 3 toms, 1 bass, 1 snare, 4 cymbals: 2 ride 2 crash, i will soon buy another crash or splash cymbal. my floor tom is mounted on the stand of one of my rides. im running out of space
You may want to reconsider getting a drum rack, as with the setup you currently have, you should have plenty of space.
I would make two suggestions to you.
1. Use boom stands. If you are using straight cymbal stands (i.e. they can only be adjusted up and down) you're setup options will be limited. Boom stands allow you to place the stands farther away and then adjust the angled boom arm where the cymbal is closer to you.
2. You may also want to consider trading in one of your ride cymbals, unless you have a really good reason to have two...I'll leave that up to you, but in my opinion, three crashes open up a lot more opportunities that two ride cymbals. Alternatively, you could get a "special effect" cymbal, like trash hats or a china cymbal.
If you're dead set on getting a rack, then I would suggest a Gibralter rack. They are very durable and offer almost endless setup options. Also, you can go into almost any music store and buy replacement parts off the shelf. I would advise against the Pearl racks, as they use square tubes instead of circular tubes...this offers less setup options. Also, replacement parts for the Pearl racks are harder to find.
Good luck, and happy drumming!
