Need help with aquarium rack for breeding setup?
Hello ,
I'm currently looking into investing in an aquarium rack to house multiple aquariums because i am running out of floor space. My current breeding setup is 2x 4x2x2(feet) divided aquariums. I wish to stack then on a unit and to be able to add some smaller tanks on top probably two 2 foot tanks with room for a sump at the bottom of the rack. I need help working out the best method to do this. I have seen other setups like this before (LFS) but never with so much weight per shelf the water alone in one tank weights 400kg. The first two shelves have to support a weight i predict to be around 600kg.
Ps. I have access to a spot welder and do not mind diying but have no clue about how much force different thickness steel can take.
Thanks to anyone who can help.
You can often find used retail display units from places like Petco and Walmart. They are sometimes on ebay and can be found if you look. You can also but the units new from the manufacturers like Casco, TruVu, Marineland, etc. Even if the unit is far away you can use a freight company to ship it. Search for "retail aquarium system." When we upgraded we resold the used ones to a customer for a breeder set up like you are looking for.
If you DIY, you can use the metal but I like you am not sure on the load bearing capability of different thickness. I have a set up using 4x4 posts with bracing (basically built much like a deck) and it works great. Just make sure it is not too top heavy (making the base larger than the top helps with this). You can google DIY Aquarium Rack and have many hits with decent set ups.
