Differencet between 1/4" speaker cable and shielded cable?
Whats the difference between a 1/4" speaker cable and 1/4" shielded cable (for guitar cord)? Is a shield cable want I want for general use with instruments and stuff?
A shielded cable is for low-level signals. The shield keeps noise out of the signal. For example, the signals from a mic to the preamp is very low level so mic cables are shielded. The wires running to speakers have fairly large levels on them into fairly low impedence devices so no shielding is necessary. For instruments and the like you should use shielded cable. This helps keep noise out of their signals and also prevents their signal from getting into other low level lines.
