what do i need for speakon connectors?
in a active speaker that has speakon connectors what cables and supplies do i need to connect it to my laptop?
Speakon is the name of a speaker connector made by a company called Neutrik. Its usually used on professional audio gear to connect between the amp and the speaker. It was developed because of the need for a rugged locking connector. You should be able to get them from any sort of place that sells band and PA gear. Do an image search for speakon connector, the common size is about 3/4 in diameter and has a couple of slots for the locking peg.
You mention active speakers, usually that means the speaker has the amp built in. With a built in amp you would not have speakon connectors. Those are used for speakers without amps. If you have a speaker without an amp I doubt a computer will have the power to run it. Are you sure the active speaker does not have a XLR or cannon plug? Those are about 1/2 in diameter and have 3 pins. Those would commonly be the input for and amplifier. They are also used for microphones. Those would also be available at a place that sells band and PA equipment.
