Choreography for Dance Audition?
I am auditioning for the Imagination stage dance ensemble (ISDE) and as part of the audition you must show them a piece and then interview with your parent. I have never really choreographed a piece before but I am connected some of my favorite moves along with across the floor combinations from where I dance (CityDance at Strathmore). I emailed the director and she said the piece needs to be between 1-2 minutes and she is looking for my "Strength". What particular things should i include..? and/or any and every tip but mostly what shows my "strength"
also I was thinking of using the song "We All Fall" by Superchick http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWLX473H8Co (ignore the actual video) because its slow and kinda pretty and falls in 1:47 timeframe...opinions ?
I'm also considering using Where by Lisbeth Scott, Castle in the Sky, Carol of the Bells or something else but any other song suggestions in that time frame would be appreciated.
The song is pretty but a little iffy it doesn't have any real power to it, its all Piano. Given a song doesn't have to have anything more then just a piano to give it power. It just doesn't have any moments for me where I picture you doing this big move.
With that said, you want to focus on your Strength's. Your strength is what your most good at. So if your really good at doing turns you should have some big turns in there, like forte turns or multiple pirouette turns. If Your Straight is leaps and such, try throwing a few jumps and leaps in. Its what ever you believe your are most good at.
But do not try and fit everything in. Trying to fit everything in a solo makes it look crowded, messy and sloppy. Sometimes it can make you look rushed and as if you don't care because you are trying to get to the next step on time and are not fully doing the one your at.
You just have to listen to your music and think about you on stage and think about what would look good and what wouldn't.
Good Luck, Hope I helped.
