Can I access my camcorders microphone and use it as a recording device for my computer?
I am a DJ on an internet radio station and my current desktop mic is very poor quality, but the microphone built into my camcorder is a high quality stereo condenser microphone. My camcorder connects to my PC via Firewire and I would like to know if it is possible to record audio from my camcorder's microphone onto my PC. This should save me the effort of buying an expensive condenser mic.
Easy answer, no. The firewire connection on your camcorder was not meant for that purpose, you can not use it like that. However if there is a line out for the audio + video, you MAY be able to run a wire from the audio out port to the line in on your pc. Depends on the specific camcorder though, and if it has those connections. The would be the same ones that you use to connect it directly to the TV to show your footage.
