recording music help please?
im now getting set up to record music to a laptop. my understanding so far is that i can get software onto the laptop to record to (e.g. protools) and connect a mixer to the laptop via a '3.5mm stereo plug - 2 x RCA phono plugs' cable and mics into the mixer . . . . .
any corrections / obv. mistakes so far?
is a 'preamp' something to do with the mixer?
What is an interface?
What is firewire/USB2?
What are plug ins?
Are ILOK smartkeys just a money grabber?
if anything here can be advised towards then i will be very grateful thanks . .. . Nathan
The 2 RCA plugs into thte audio out of the mixer (or directly to the audio player) the mini plug goes into your PC line IN socket (Usually blue) on your sound card. Open the sound editing software like Cool Edit Pro (Adobe Audition) or what have you. Open the pc's RECORDING mixer. See to it that line in is selected. Play your audio player, start recording on the software and adjust the recording level (adjust the LINE slider). Test your recording with the software and if it's ok repeat the procedure and start a good recording.
