Need Camcorder Microphone Advice?
I need an external shotgun type microphone for my high end Panasonic AG-DVC33 mini dv camcorder.
The mic jack takes a stereo mini plug. (stereo 3.5 mm diameter) I have tried several shotgun microphones but it only records on one channel because they are mono. I have been unable to find a stereo shotgun microphone, not sure if there is any such thing.
What do I need so it records on both channels, or can I do that in the video software? (I'm using Sony Vegas Movie Studio 6.0) Or is it as simple as just getting a plug adapter? What kind of problems can I run into? Do I need to be careful about unknown issues?
I'm a newbe --- I simply do not know.
Also, advice on a brand and model would be nice. I have a limited budget and limited stores to deal with since I live in central China. I'd like a short list to take to my supplier. Hopefully he'll be able to get me one.
Signed, a transplanted ex pat from the USA living in the heartland of China.
Peace
Jim
The easiest thing would be to copy the one good channel of audio over to the other channel in Vegas. I haven't used Vegas, but in other editors, you can unsync the audio and video, delete one audio channel, and then copy an paste the other. You can also buy a portable mixer that attaches to the bottom of the camera. It has two XLR inputs, and allows you to choose to record the audio on both channels or just one. As far as specific models, check out the Audio Sourcebook from B&H at http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=search&A=search&Q=&shs=sourcebook&ci=0
