PSU cutting out when connecting LED's to 12V line. Any reason why?
I have a Dell NS-110CB that I pulled out of my mums old computer. I wanted to use this as like a bench top power supply to run LEDs from. However, whenever I connect up my LED strip (which is meant for 12V), the power supply will always cut out. Even if I've got the PSU running with a CPU fan for some load, as soon as I connect the LED's up, they will flash, and then all of the power will cut.
Does anyone know why this is?
The PSU I've got is this one: http://www.ambry.com/page/search.asp?partnumber=NPS-110CB
Thanks
So it's important which ground I use? I always though that all the black wires were ground, and therefore I could use any of them..
sounds like you aren't using the correct grounding wire and therefore causing a short in the PSU or perhaps tapping into the 5v and not 12v.
the hard drive power cable has four pins, holding the cable with the flat side on the bottom and starting from the left it is as follows:
5v, GND, GND, 12v.
