What should I buy next for my home studio?
So I have been building a home studio for the past year or so and I really would like to start making some instrumental guitar type music.
-I have two large desks a computer (Dell DE051 w/ 512mb ram)
-Some higher quality computer speakers with a sub woofer
-A Presonus Firebox with Cubase LE
-And I have plenty of cables, a Shure SM57, 3 Behringer Mics (All Dynamic Mics)
-A large collection of Plug-ins and VSTi's
However I still need more gear...
This is what I need:
A Midi Controller Keyboard, Studio Monitors, A Mixer, A Condensor Mic and Mic Stands, Ram for my computer (1 GB to improve performance)
What should my priorities be and in what order should I buy the equiptment?
if your going to use a lot of tracks or VST you will need more Ram. 2GB or more
get a high speed HDD eg Raptor if you record a lot of tracks at once.
if your reasonably happy with your PC's performance then chose Monitors, i have a Firebox and Event ASP 8 Monitors. PC speakers won't cut it no matter how good they are, your subwoofer will not represent your bass accurately and make mixing a nightmare for you.
after that i would buy some decent rackmount compression.
compression is one of the few effects where VST won't cut it. you need decent hardware based compression.
after that i would chose a good condenser (like the Rode NT1a) and a nice mic pre-amp, you might be able to get the store to throw in some mic stands when you barter the price.
after that i would get the midi keyboard
after that i would replace those Behringer mics with Shure or Sennheiser dynamics
(last 3 are pretty interchangeable in order)
this is just my opinion, if you want a lot more opinions from other home studio owners and professional audio engineers post in the forums here

there is heaps of home studio and audio production info, tutorials advice etc....
