Can you look back to one specific album and say that album "got you into" a particular style of music?
For example, for me:
Styx - The Grand Illusion (1977) got me into 70s and 80s album rock
Kiss Alive II (1978, I think) got me into "Hard Rock", followed closely by AC/DC - Back in Black in 1980.
1980 - Judas Priest - British Steel, got me into heavy metal.
1985 (or thereabouts) - Metallica - Master of Puppets, got me into speed metal.
Stevie Ray Vaughan"s Greatest Hits album got me into the blues.
"Pure Schurr" by Diane Schurr, got me into jazz.
Seen any similar progressions in your musical tastes?
Well, I have a somewhat popular '80s New Wave/Punk station at 631radio.com, so am pretty serious about that genre. But have liked several types of music.
KISS "Destroyer" with those to-the-point songs and super album cover got me to appreciate metal and hard rock.
The Cure's "Head on the Door" alternative. I had it before 99% of people had even heard of the Cure.
The Talking Heads "Speaking in Tongues" popular '80s heady rock/pop.
Prince's "Dirty Mind" R&B/Rock with risque lyrics.
