Active vs passive subwoofer?
which is better for a home theater system?
I am looking at different systems and some have passive and some have active subwoofers.
I don't have an amp for the passive subwoofers if they should have one.
If I get a passive subwoofer system, would I have to get an amp for it to sound as good as an active subwoofer system?
it all depends on the power of your receiver. if you have a gargantuan reciever (200-300 watts/channel rms) then you probably do not need an active sub, but im guessing you havent spent 2-4 grand for one of these brutes ... so an active sub is probably in order.
also ... you have said nothing about the size of the room ... or where you plan on putting the sub ...which all factor in when selecting a particular size of sub ..and the power/frequency response of one as well.
