What all do I need to get a condenser microphone up and running?
I recently ordered a M-Audio Nova Condenser Microphone from musiciansfriend.com. It came with the mic cable. I was also looking at the ART TUBE MP Project Series Preamp. I heard that condenser mics need phantom power, and this pre amp has that. But if I have this, does it mean I don't need a mixer, or do I still need one? And if I buy a LightSnake USB mic cable along with the pre amp, will I have everything I need? I'm also using FL Studio.
yes, a condenser mic will need phantom power unless it uses batteries.
if you use google you should be able to find some basic articles which explain the operating principles of condenser and dynamic mics
for the price of the mic you got, I would have gotten the AKG Perception 120 instead (same price)
whether you need a mixer or not depends on what all you want to do (or be able to do). if you get the ART preamp, you can get by without a mixer. the musiciansfriend page about the ART doesn't indicate the output connections it has. I wouldn't waste my money on the LightSnake USB Microphone Cable.
