Help with home recording.?
Ok, so I'm really new at home recording. so Im going to start off with simple gear.
I'm planning on buying this preamp
http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/ART-Tube-MP-Project-Series-Tube-MicrophoneInstrument-Preamp?sku=180643
and this mic
http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/MXL-V63M-Studio-Condenser-Microphone-with-Shockmount?sku=273158
Then i'll purchase the accessories, like cable, boom stands etc, and I'm getting pro-tools to go along with it.
Now will this work for just recording simple vocals, acoustic, and some electric?
And now the main question. in your opinion, Is MIDI essential? and if it is, what preamp (please recommend a cheap one) would be best for my needs? and could I just buy a sound card with a midi adapter?
Tell me what you would do
this will work for what you are doing no problem make sure you computer can handle the pro tool setup and if you are getting pro tools 9 it accepts any interface now. as for midi its not necessary. those are just controllers for beats or piano pieces right into pro tools. as for a an interface i would recommend the mbox 2 it has 2 pre amps so you can run vocals as well as your guitar and now that pro tools 9 is out people are ditching their mbox. and that also has midi inputs for future use and its a great starting point. i like the mic choice but i would also recommend the mxl 990 and 991 pack. the 990 is a great vocal mic its very bright and not expensive and the 991 is a decent small diaphram condenser that would sound great if you mic an acoustic guitar.
