What is the max RMS watt 8 ohm speaker that I can hook up to my amp without damaging the equipment?
I have a Pyle PWMA2003T 2000 Watt Hybrid Pre Amp
with 2000 Watts Peak Power
600 Watts @ 2 Ohms
460 Watts @ 4 Ohms
240 Watts @ 8 Ohms
What is the max RMS watt speakers @ 8 ohms that I can hook up to this thing without damaging any equipment?
The power rating of the speakers doesn't matter. The difference in power rating that is given for the different impedance is because the higher impedance limits the power that can be delivered. You can connect 1 watt speakers and the only risk is overdriving the speakers and damaging them. If you connect 500 watt, 8 ohm speakers you shouldn't be able to damage them because the amp will only deliver 240 watts into 8 ohms. If you connected 1,000 watt, 8 ohm speakers the results would be the same. You couldn't hurt the speakers and the amp can only deliver the 240 watts which means the amp shouldn't be hurt. The only problem with very high watt speakers is that you may not be able to drive them enough to make them sound good.
