175 watt speakers with 1600 watt power amp?
is it a bad idea to combine the two? would it damage the speakers?
and with speaker connections, (the speakon connections), can you run a connection from a power amp into the input, and then run another cable from the output into an input on another speaker to be able to power them both?
the make of the speakers are SAMSON RS12M
and the power amp is a technical pro slimpro B-1600.
i think it is discontinued but the 1700 watt on is here: http://www.technicalhifi.com/prods.php?prod=Slimpro-B1700
Zeke - It would help if you let us know the make and model of the amp and speakers.
Anyway, you will not damage the speakers unless you crank up the volume of the amp. If you play the system at reasonable volumes, you should be OK.
Yes, you can run the wire from one channel on the amp and feed two speakers as you described as long as the impedance af the two speakers combined is not too low for the amp. Two 8 ohm speakers wired in parallel is 4 ohms - two 4 ohm speakers wired in parallel is 2 ohms. I assume that is a stereo amp with two channels? If it is, you should connect one speaker to each channel.
