how many battery's does it take to power a 2000 watt amplifier?
I don't know about the other guys but I have had a 2000 watt RMS amp in the past and this is what I had for my charging system. It was the Eclipse DA7232 (200amp draw)
Car: 2005 Scion xB
- Scock 80 amp alternator
- Upgraded my big 3 (0 gague wire)
- Optima Red Top
- I had a small stinger battery hooked up to my amp for my amp to directly draw power from instead of putting extra strain on my alternator http://www.hifisoundconnection.com/Shop/Control/Product/fp/vpid/1333947/vpcsid/0/SFV/30046
No dimming and everything ran perfect. Not the cheapest set up but I was running 2,500 watts RMS from all of my amps which they all put about a 300 amp draw on my charging system when I was pushing it hard.
When you start to mess with your electrical system things can get tricky.
If you were to go for an upgraded alternator I'm not against it but you might want to think about warranty issues.
I would add an extra battery and up grade my "big 3" before I was as far as getting a more powerful alternator.
Either way there is not really a cheap alternative to getting more clean power.
Hope this help man....
