How can I hookup a microphone to the computer?
I have a mike with an xlr male connector, so I need a cord with an xlr female end to plug into the mike and on the other end an 1/8" male to plug into the front of the HP desktop computer. (Mike in)
The mike is monoraul but I do not know what the input on the computer is, and cant find any info. Should I assume that it is monoraul as well? Or, is it stereo? If so, what will happen if one is mono and the other stereo.? If it is stereo input, how do i get the mono-mike to work? Thanks, all the help is appreciated, as i am not good at this.
Top....
when you say will work fine, do you mean it will put the mike input onto one track? I just want to have the capablity to input sound into the computer...So, if it will work, it will be on one channel, right?

The computer input is stereo, but the mono input form the mic cannot be up-scaled without the use of a mixer-type device. The mic will work fine, but i would suggest an external sound board that connects to USB (an audio interface) because of the unbalanced nature of XLR
Good Luck
