Small powered monitor 1/4" TRS bal in connection?
Have KRK Rokit5; The TRS 1/4" has 1s=gnd, 2t=hi, and 3r=low on the balanced in, in addition to the XLR. Most TRS phono jacks i've used are stereo. So on a complete balanced system what are the connections?
I want to use this via a small portable Behringer ub1202fx mixer to my computer but it only has 1/4" phono L/R outs. Does this mean that this is just un unbalanced connection i.e. pin 1 & pin 3 tied at the source, thus a regular mono plug.
Not really sure what the jack looks like but if i use an 1/8" stereo adapter to 1/4" (headphone adapter) from my line out on my computer will it work with one input to KRK half way or is this just a garbage connection? Works great with a 1/8" Y to unbal RCA 's in tho.
You can use 2 conductor mono 1/4 inch cables to connect the mixer to the KRK's no problem. The sound will not be effected.
You can use 1/4 inch TRS cables too but they are harder to find and a waste of money in this case.
TRS jacks will accept either TRS 3 conductor connectors or mono 2 conductor connectors.
To connect the computer directly to the KRK's, you would use a 3.5mm to 1/4 inch Y cable:

A better way to connect the computer to the KRK's is to use an unused mixer channel for the computer output using the same 3.5mm to 1/4 inch Y cable.
